| Insurance company sued over contract
A Brentwood life insurance company is being sued by a California consulting firm that alleges it was never paid despite finding a buyer in 2005. Continental Life Insurance Co. of Brentwood owes Robert Tookey Associates Inc. $725,000, according to the breach-of-contract lawsuit filed in federal court. Tookey Associates maintains that it wasn't paid after Genworth Financial and Continental Life Insurance reached a deal in May 2005, according to the suit. .
NEW LIFE FOR TAINTED PARK
The 5th District Park in the Avenel section of Woodbridge is slated to reopen soon, after workers spent Monday hauling in clean soil for the popular playground located near the contaminated site of a closed submarine factory. "It's very good," said Arleen Madsen, a township resident, who lives behind the 1.9-acre park. "'Mayor John McCormac and the council said what was to be done, when it would be started, and they were true to their word." Town officials shut down the Avenel Street park next to the rundown General Dynamics factory after tests last summer showed elevated levels of lead, arsenic and other chemicals. Engineers had recommended soil testing as a precaution before adding more playground equipment. Cleanup of the park started early this year and was recently complete.

Featured in March 27, 2008 print edition On April 6, the hopes and dreams of the Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church congregation will reach yet another significant milestone in its long history. On that Sunday, the church will celebrate the opening of its new Family Life Center. Constructed at a cost of over 2 million dollars, the building will dramatically transform the ability of the church to not only meet the needs of its congregation but also the needs of the community at large. One of the main features of the structure is the new open multipurpose area, large enough to accommodate full court basketball.
